Liza with a wheeee!

Am I the only person in the universe who didn't know that Our Pal's Über-Ex "Liza" (she of the ring-spurning and tremendous sense) went on to marry and procreate with Conan O'Brien?

Pfffwwwaaaaahhhh!

(Just had to share.)

This means the yokelette is going to marry at least Seth Myers, doesn't it?

This proves my theory that I have been thinking to myself. Eric is chasing women who have a lot of options, some of them more successful, better-looking, more polished, and more a lot of things than Eric. Not that Eric doesn't have some of these qualities. (I am talking about when Eric initially tries to get to know someone...right now I am not talking about once the women see his needy side and a few other things in his emotional makeup.) I am merely talking about when Eric tries to attract someone on initial meeting and the woman doesn't know much about him yet.

Apparently this Liza was, and remains, all "that." This doesn't disparage Eric or shall we say another short guy with a couple of indie films under his belt but who isn't from a privileged background, has smarts and is making it in New York but lacks a little bit of the refinement and polish of those who came from a different background, and maybe a little rough around the edges. In Eric's case I think he thinks rough around the edges=good. All I am saying is that he appears to be chasing women who don't think rough around the edges (in the way Eric is) = good, and who also have a lot of options. In other words, he is chasing women who are in high demand.

This is why I say that Francesca can do better also.
She has been characterized as a yokelette, but she's very young and probably into proving she has an "edge." But something tells me Francesca is probably from a refined background in some ways, and is about to blossom into a young woman who can do a lot better.

Nothing wrong with the women who aren't quite as accomplished as Liza or Francesca for that matter. It's just that *Eric* thinks he's above them. And Eric can't get the ones he is chasing. The ones he is chasing apparently can get *Conan.* I rest my case, even though I didn't state it very well.

You, too, can do better Francesca.

COOL! Thank you so much for posting to that entry of mine!

I feel uber-special right now. (And it's true. I dug through his archives and read every damn entry one night and he mentions that Liza and Conan went on to date, which is when I further researched and discovered that Conan ended up marrying her.)

And yup, if Eric does propose to "Melinda," she might do well to turn him down. Thus ensuring that she would end up with someone like Jimmy Fallon (I think that's a step up from Eric).

Deleted my last post because three posts to one entry seemed crazy. The bad kind of crazy (an Eric kind of crazy, maybe).

But I wanted to supply the link to Eric's blog entry about Liza and Conan.

(blah blah blah) Football (blah blah blah) Conan and my ex-girlfriend (blah)

Blahs are mine because the title of that entry is absurdly long. But there you have it. Eric even writes about seeing their engagement announcement in the paper. Oh to have been a fly on the wall to witness his reaction to that.

I wonder how Liza feels about that blog being there with her identifiable. I get the feeling she could be one of those who desire her name in the paper only "when she is married and when she dies." But wait, she works in advertising, so I am not sure. I bet she comes from privilege though.

Wouldn't it be great if Conan punched Eric's lights out for besmirching Liza publicly. Full Disclosure: I have a crush on Conan.

It seems obvious that Liza didn't want to explain to Eric that she was serious with Conan loudly in a public park. It's obvious what was going through her mind: "Uh-Oh, of all the people to run into, do I tell him the reason I'm staying in New York or will it be cruel?" or "Will he blow a gasket?" I get the feeling she has a fair amount of refinement and reserve and Eric thinks that's a bit precious. I am not sure but I bet Conan appreciates the refinement and reserve in a woman from a certain background, and Eric would like to land a woman of privilege from a certain background and bring her down a few pegs. Not sure. I think smart women can sense that.

Darkstar, why are you so concerned with class stratification?

Just because this woman married a guy with a talk show (albeit a very funny and talented guy) doesnt mean you can assume all the things you seem to about what kind of person she is. Some people really aren't all that impressed by celebrity. I also don't think its fair to judge ES on anything beyond what he's said or written himself. Anything else is just speculation and presumption and won't be very compelling as grounds for moral indictment.

The reason I think class plays into who Eric chases and who Eric is or isn't successful with is that class is the elephant in the American living room that no one talks about, but which operates just beneath the surface. Tom Wolfe said everything is about class. I think when some people aspire to date certain people, it's really social acceptance the person craves in large part. Some people in some locations and circles talk about this quite openly. Others don't talk about it and don't seem to believe it plays a part. I think those who don't believe it plays a part are deluding themselves.

Tom Wolfe is a moron. Some people, by the way, are aware of their class prejudice, and actively try to overcome it so that they have a chance at authentic happiness. I don't think Liza didn't marry ES because he wasn't of her class, and if that WAS her reason, she doesn't sound very "raffine" at all.

I'm sorry but this whole thing is friggen DELICIOUS. First Conan BANS ERIC FOR LIFE from his show, which would have been enough for me right there. But then the ex, the one who dumped Eric's ass with a ring in his hand, lands Conan and marries him! Conan...god, talk about trading up. I thank god for that woman she said no to Eric, and I'm an atheist.

I am no particular fan of ES but I've read everything he's written and don't think there's one word to suggest his romantic choices have anything to do with class.
